Desk found from internet market place. Made in 1950's by Lahden Puukalusto Oy.
Old varnish to be removed and sanded. Then staining and a new coat of laqcuer.
Lahden Puukalusto Oy. In the beginning of the 1960's the name changed to Oy Iskun Tehtaat (Isku Factories).
Sold originally by Haimi Oy in Helsinki. Yrjö Kukkapuro used to be one of their designers.
Removing the old lacqcuer trom the top.
Finger joints on the drawers. Over 60 years old and still in good condition.
Some minor touches done to drawers.
First layer of stain, needs some sanding next.
I had to stain also the insides of the drawers.
Sanding, staining with red and brown. Again some sanding, then some ebony stain. Getting closer.
Glasses are missing from these, measurements taken.
Laqcuer also on these, some of the sides have had some sunshine during the years so they are a little bit lighter than other sides, original colour has faded.
After sanding the wood and then staining the top needed several coats of laqcuer. Two coats was enough for the other parts.
I made some new walls into the drawers to keep the stuff better in order in so long areas.
Here's my desk in use now.
