Fender Champ into an old tube radio.
Starting to make a new amplifier. Found a nice radio from the internet.

Hornyphon Prinz 39

Plan is that it will get the Fender Champ inside.

Fender started to manufacture Champ in 1948 and continued until 1982.
The Champ had only one power tube (6V6), a single ended class A amplifier, producing about 5 watts power.
In the year 1958 Champ with schematic version 5F1 Fender was using 8” speaker. And it was a tweed series amp, like in the picture can be seen.

Here she is:
Looking really nice with those rounded corners. The radio station tuning display lights will be used to show that the amp is on.
Beautiful Art Deco style metal rods in front.
Speaker inside seems to be very close to 8“, so I may be able to make this as a combo. I’m planning to add also a headphone connector.
Radio chassis taken out from the box.
Radio is Hornyphon Prinz 39. Made in Germany. At least for a Finnish radio listener these familiar places can be found from there: Pori, Turku, Oulu, Lahti and Vaasa.
Point-to-point wiring, no eyelet board. Someone has changed one capacitor, assuming because it was hidden under green-yellow tape.
Original tube chart of the radio:

EBL1 - Double Diode-Pentode, AZ1 - Full wave rectifier, EF9 - Variable μ amplifier pentode, EK2 - Octode frequency changer.
There is enough room for 8” speaker.
Original speaker was in a cloth bag and it had kept the dust away from the speaker. Maybe not the best speaker for guitar amplifier.
Original tubes have that kind of connectors to the tube socket.
Chassis has been cleaned from old stuff. Now starts the planning of the new amp.
Everything stripped off including the old lacquer and the metal rods.
Looks like the fresh wood after sanding it a little bit.
Shellac has been applied on the wood. I also got those metal pieces back to their places. Plan is to have one jack for the guitar, Volume, Tone and Master Volume pots on the panel.
Version of the Champ schematics where I have added some mods: 3-way Boost switch, adjustable negative feedback, attenuator switch (5W or 0,5W), headhones jack and a switch to turn it on and a master volume pot.
Wiring schema following the new version is also on the way.
Old holes on the back of the chassis have been filled and some new holes for the switches and others has also been made.
Components soldered to eyelet board. Transformers and switches have found their places.
A lot of wiring done already, jack and pots which are will be mounted in front are not connected yet.
The hole on the back door has been done.
There she is ready to go into the cabinet. But first some voltage measurements with adjustable power supply.
Tubes are from TAD: 5Y3, 6V6 ja 12AX7.
Everything is ready. Champ is ready for testing.
Lights are on and it works perfectly. Pots from the left: Volume, Tone and Master Volume.
Tweed Deluxe (5E3) and Champ (5F1) ready to play.
